2016 Los Angeles Rams Roster Preview: LB Cameron Lynch has Opportunity for Expanded Role

Lynch was a somewhat surprise addition to the 2015 Rams roster. With the changes to the LB corps this offseason, his chances or sticking around this season are markedly better.

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

I look forward to the Roster Previews every year. It gives us all an opportunity to learn about all the players on the Los Angeles Rams roster - both known and unknown. Every year I've been on staff, I've found myself writing about players I know little about. Usually they're UDFAs and fringe players - this time it's a LB who made the squad last year.

Roster Battle

The Rams carried 6 linebackers last season, but this year's group will look slightly different. James Laurinaitis has departed for Nawlins, Darren Bates defected to the Raiders, and Alec Ogletree is moving over to MLB. Lynch made the roster as a special teams contributor in 2015 and with Bates' departure, the possibility of staying on the roster in that capacity has only grown.

Lynch will primarily have to fend off Josh Forrest for reps at LB, but I think his role on special teams is fairly safe.

Expectations

You're going to be given first shot at filling Bates' shoes. Seize the day.

Chances of Making Final Roster (8/10)

The LB corps has been shaken up this offseason, and I think Lynch has a great shot of retaining his spot on the roster. Especially with Bates leaving the squad, he may find himself in the 'core special teamer' role.
