2016 NFL Mock Draft: Kiper's Fourth Mock Has Rams On Familiar QB Target

It's not a new name, but does Kiper mocking it lend it any extra credibility?

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN's Mel Kiper, Jr., has his fourth mock draft up behind the insider paywall because life is full of pain and fecklessness.

In it, he has the Rams going for a familiar name we've seen many times previously:

Paxton Lynch (QB, Memphis)

Lynch needs a lot of development, but for a franchise desperate for a quarterback, he could be worth the bet. Could the Rams be one of the teams willing to move up for Goff or Wentz? It's not entirely out of the question.

I'm just not sold on the likelihood of taking a QB at 15 for the Rams.

The Rams extended Nick Foles last year after trading Sam Bradford to the Philadelphia Eagles for him. They traded away a draft pick for Case Keenum a year ago and tendered him at the first-round level a month ago. They supplemented those two with a third round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft in the form of Sean Mannion. That they would undo the clear plan they constructed a year ago after just one season would seem...odd. And perhaps worse, I don't know why we should trust the group that constructed that plan to immediately undo it and replace it with a new one after 16 games, 16 games that didn't include Sean Mannion in the first place.

It's not that I think Lynch isn't a solid first-round QB prospect. It's that I don't think he's a solid one for the 2016 least with the same people in place that put the 2015 approach at QB together.
