Six years ago, the St. Louis Rams drafted Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford with the #1 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Today, the Los Angeles Rams kick off a new era with a new franchise QB of their own to build behind: Cal QB Jared Goff.
Goff wasn't the most heralded prospect in the draft run-up nor was he an early favorite to land here at the outset of the 2015 college football season. Nonetheless, the Rams have moved all their chips in on Goff.
Here's how the major draft sites see Goff:
Site | QB rank | Overall rank |
Mocking the Draft | 1 | 5 |
ESPN | 2 | 11 |
CBS Sports | 1 | 5 |
Ultimately, the pre-draft hype doesn't matter. The rankings don't matter. The lack of a spotlight throughout the season doesn't matter.
The Los Angeles Rams, and the braintrust of Head Coach Jeff Fisher and General Manager Les Snead, have gone all-in on Goff's back. His early NFL success should determine their employment moving forward.
Their fate, and his, begins tonight.
Jared Goff is a Los Angeles Ram.
