Former Rams DE Chris Long To Visit Washington As NFL Free Agency Looms

The Rams' former staple at LDE will head to D.C. for his first official visit.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Rams released DE Chris Long (along with MLB James Laurinaitis and TE Jared Cook) less than a month ago. But with free agency set to begin on Wednesday at 4pm and the legal tampering window opening roughly 90 minutes ago as those three are building up interest on the free agent market, at least one is getting started with official team visits:

As Long was released from his contract, the tampering window and March 9 opening deadline don't apply to his employment. Any team can offer and sign him immediately.

Of course, the rest of the market is headed toward availability with guys like Mario Williams, Jason Pierre-Paul and Bruce Irvin leading most pass rushing boards. So Long isn't exactly in a great position for leverage.

Still, the eight-season veteran has more than 50 sacks to his name. He's in a great position to let the market come to him and find the best landing spot with a chance at a bounce back season in 2016.

For someone who worked tirelessly for the Rams on and off the field and was never afforded a shot at the playoffs, he deserves at least as much.
