Jeff Fisher confirmed at a press conference today that CB Trumaine Johnson has signed his franchise tender worth $13.952 million. With the threat of another team negotiating with him removed, the two sides can now focus on a long term deal - which would need to be finalized by July 15th.
It's hard to imagine the Rams not wanting to get a long term deal done with Johnson. But the reality of the Rams situation is that an extension will likely not be a priority in the coming weeks. I'd be surprised if the 2 sides worked something out before the 2016 NFL draft.
Personally, I feel that him signing his tender this quickly is a good thing for the Rams. It's a positive development, and it's the first check mark on a laundry list of Free Agency priorities for Snead and Fisher.
With Janoris Jenkins determined to test the market, the Rams will look to Mark Barron and Rodney McLeod as a part of "Priority A" for the 2016 offseason.
