Fisherball is very simple. It does not ask much. What it does ask is adherence.
Fail to adhere to its simple requirements and the system fails. It requires 100% fealty, 100% acknowledgement and 100% solidarity.
When you don’t give it your full commitment? Well, you get the second half of today’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills.
Look, this isn’t new. We know this script. And in all likelihood, we know where things are going.
That’s not the point.
The point is that nothing has changed.
Case Keenum. Todd Gurley. Tavon Austin. Brian Quick. Kenny Britt. The offensive line. The rookie complement. The offensive line. The Rams have one of the worst offenses in the entire NFL and aren’t going to change that.
The defense is much more talented, but plays a specific brand of football. When forced to adjust to injures and personnel changes? They’d much rather just continue to stick to that brand of football regardless of who’s playing. Soft secondary coverage requiring physical ball skills over cover skills? Let’s sign Coty Sensabaugh! Janoris Jenkins and Rodney McLeod leaving after being deemed Priority A in keeping them? We’ll just promote Cody Davis and Maurice Alexander and assume E.J. Gaines will come back 100% after a year off! What could go wrong!
And the special teams...they continue to be perfect. Imagine if 2016 Greg Zuerlein looked at all like 2015 Greg Zuerlein. The Rams could be 1-4.
No, this isn’t different. This is what it’s designed to be. It’s Fisherball. And you’ll love it. You’ll love the small parts of joy it offers and you’ll find ways to excuse the rest. Only because if you won’t, you decry the entire thing.
And you haven’t done that for years. So why start now?
