2016 NFL Mock Draft: NFL.com's Lance Zierlein Has Rams On QB Train

New, comments

The QB hype keeps building with Zierlein's first mock.

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein has his first mock out. Let us mock.

Top 14:

# Team Pick POS School
1 Tennessee Titans Laremy Tunsil OT Ole Miss
2 Cleveland Browns Jared Goff QB California
3 San Diego Chargers DeForest Buckner DE Oregon
4 Dallas Cowboys Joey Bosa DE Ohio St.
5 Jacksonville Jaguars Jalen Ramsey CB Florida St.
6 Baltimore Ravens Ronnie Stanley OT Notre Dame
7 San Francisco 49ers Myles Jack OLB UCLA
8 Miami Dolphins Vernon Hargreaves III CB Florida
9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Kevin Dodd DE Clemson
10 New York Giants Jaylon Smith OLB Notre Dame
11 Chicago Bears A'Shawn Robinson DT Alabama
12 New Orleans Saints Carson Wentz QB North Dakota St.
13 Philadelphia Eagles Jack Conklin OT Michigan St.
14 Oakland Raiders Mackensie Alexander CB Clemson

Before we get to the Rams pick, look at the disparity between offensive and defensive picks there! I mentioned this factor two weeks ago, but man is it an issue here. Just five of the first 14 picks here are on offensive and they're all from two positions: QB and OT.

So for the Rams?

Paxton Lynch (QB, Memphis)

New furniture often goes well in a new home. Will Stan Kroenke put plastic on Lynch to protect him for the first few years?

Stan Kroenke won't give a sweet damn about a single player on the roster. Let's not kid ourselves. Lazy topical jokes aside (gotta get those Kroenke clicks!), this is mock #4 for Lynch tying him with the most popular option for the Rams along with Ole MissLaquon Treadwell, who Zierlein has at #23 to the Minnesota Vikings, BTW.

It's a fun mock with some wacky slotting (Louisiana Tech DT Vernon Butler at #16? Texas Tech OT Le'Raven Clark in the first? AUBURN OT SHON COLEMAN?!

Worth a read. And worth keeping tabs on the mock tracker now as we've got more than a dozen in the hopper.

So with the Shrine Game and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl today, where do we go from here?
