New, comments

Could the Rams place the fate of their 2016 season in a QB that didn't even plays in the FBS?

Mock #4 on this Mock Monday, this from NFL.com's Bucky Brooks.

Top 14:

# Team Pick POS School
1 Tennessee Titans Laremy Tunsil OT Ole Miss
2 Cleveland Browns Jared Goff QB California
3 San Diego Chargers Ronnie Stanley OT Notre Dame
4 Dallas Cowboys Joey Bosa DE Ohio St.
5 Jacksonville Jaguars Jalen Ramsey CB Florida St.
6 Baltimore Ravens Vernon Hargreaves III CB Florida
7 San Francisco 49ers Laquon Treadwell WR Ole Miss
8 Miami Dolphins Myles Jack OLB UCLA
9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Shaq Lawson DE Clemson
10 New York Giants DeForest Buckner DE Oregon
11 Chicago Bears Reggie Ragland ILB Alabama
12 New Orleans Saints A'Shawn Robinson DT Alabama
13 Philadelphia Eagles Jack Conklin OT Michigan St.
14 Oakland Raiders Robert Nkemdiche DL Ole Miss

Interesting weaving to get to 14, but all familiar names at this point. So it has to be Paxton Lynch, right?

Nope.

Carson Wentz (QB, North Dakota St.)

The Rams must get a franchise quarterback to finally reach the postseason. Despite playing at a small school, Wentz has all of the tools to quickly develop into a high-level starter as a pro.

I haven't gotten a chance to look at his tape yet, so I'm gonna hold off any individual evaluation of Wentz as a prospect...but the idea of Jeff Fisher and a Jeff Fisher staff developing an FCS quarterback is frightening (spare me the Steve McNair habberjabber there, Trivia Timmy).

That doesn't mean it's outside the realm of possibility. It's just outside the realm of desire. Then again, if we're looking for a QB to save us from a repeat of the 2015 offensive Lovecraft novella...I guess there's an argument to swing for the fences.
