The St. Louis Rams have waived RB Isaiah Pead today and made corresponding moves to promote CB Brandon McGee from the practice squad and fill that slot with newly signed WR Nick Toon.

With RB Trey Watts facing a potential Week 5 return, Pead was facing a wall in terms of his future with the Rams. A second-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft from the RGIII trade boon, Pead was the first of five running backs drafted by Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher and General Manager Les Snead in just four years. Pead never caught on as a running back, but did offer special teams contributions. A late fumble in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks might well have been the straw that broke Fisher's camel's back.
As for McGee, he's a familiar face having come out of the 2013 NFL Draft's fifth round to the Rams. Despite being passed over by Marcus Roberson, he'll at least provide some depth in the absence of E.J. Gaines who is injured for the season which left the Rams holding just four cornerbacks on the active roster.
Toon, as we passed along yesterday, is coming on board with three years of experience with the New Orleans Saints. His admission to the practice squad leaves Brian Quick's status on the 53-man unaltered. We'll have to see if he's made available for Sunday's game in Phoenix.
For now though, it's the end of the I Pead era.
