On Sunday, EA Sports released their Top 5 ratings for NFL punters. As a St. Louis Rams’ fan, it’s one of those links you’re looking forward to click. And you know why. Because he’s awesome. He’s awesome at punting, and he’s awesome at life.
And yet he finishes second to Indianapolis Colts’ punter Pat McAfee, who finished with a very respectable 95 rating. McAfee is pretty awesome too, and if you have a Twitter account and are not following him, you’re doing yourself a huge disservice.
Now, back to Hekker...the best punter in the NFC, and the only one I know who finished an entire season with a perfect QB rating...
JOHNNY HEKKER (93 OVR)
ST. LOUIS RAMS
6’5, 236 POUNDS
Hekker has 97 Kick Power and 97 Kick Accuracy (both best among punters). A former high school quarterback, he is your choice for fake punts with 64 THP/65 TAS/40 TOR/79 AWR.
Hekker, an undrafted free agent from 2012, has already been nominated to the Pro Bowl once [2013] and was a second team All-Pro in 2014. In 2013, Hekker finished the season with a net average of 44.2 yards, breaking the single-season record held by Andy Lee [who was with the 49ers at the time], who averaged 44.0 net yards in 2011.
Regardless, Hekker continues to set his sights on greatness. He’s looking forward to the 2015 season, and continuing to improve on an already stellar start to his young NFL career.
