Tuesday, Aug. 18
As was the case yesterday, the only thing people will be talking about today is the football. X's 'n O's.
Also, the Rams have cancelled tomorrow's practice. Dallas was already off, so it was going to be a Rams-only practice. No word on if the Rams will add a supplementary practice to replace it.
Offensive Line
Tough to get a good feeling from intermittent tweets, but there were some struggles yesterday along the line. Most of the observations were focusing on the Rams' defense going up against the Cowboys' offense, so there wasn't a ton to go off of here. And that's okay. The takeaways would be pretty specious. In the end, it's good experience for a young group. As Jeff Fisher put it in an interview on the Rich Eisen Show today, it's a de facto extra preseason game. This unit needs the work.
Injuries
With so much attention on the LA angle, there wasn't a ton on the injury reporting front. And with more than four weeks to week 1 of the regular season, there's no reason to push things. Rodger Saffold doesn't need this California excursion. He does, though, need to be ready for Seattle in week 1.
Rookies
Some heartening plays out there yesterday from Rob Havenstein. Not so much from Andrew Donnal. Again, sample size. With the Titans game the second of three preseason games before the first round of cuts, there's not a ton of time to impress. A good showing today, during what I'd expect to be more physical and chippy...and chirpy (hi, Trumaine Johnson), will likely have a lasting impact for any UDFAs or late draft guys trying to stick with the team.
Defense
Ups and downs, yesterday. Janoris Jenkins had a tough day. Ethan Westbrooks had a nice interception sniffing out a screen from Tony Romo. All part of the process. I'm roughly 95% sure this is where the camp fight is going to break out with Dez shouting from the side and Tru barking at someone and then one big hit late and it's go time.
Just make sure the veterans get in there and separate guys until cooler heads can prevail, because the coaches are going to want them to scrap and get their intensity levels up...just not to up.
Stay tuned, and let us know what you're seeing either at camp or online.
