When #Rams hit training camp, RB Todd Gurley (ACL) expected to be on Non-Football Injury list, which was the plan. Can take him off whenever
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 21, 2015
This isn't exactly news, but since Rap's reporting it, it's worth putting out there as we get camp started next week.
The Non-Football Injury list, which is different from the pre-season Physically Unable to Perform list, though it also allows the player to resume team activities immediately after being cleared by medical officials and taken off the list. The NFI list, like the PUP, has separated preseason (active) and regular season (reserve) classifications. The key is that those listed on the active list still count against the roster limit. I'm assuming this is what the Rams will use for Todd Gurley to begin camp, so they won't bring in an extra body to replace him.

The big question though is when will they activate him?
Obviously for a rookie of his caliber, you can't rush him back. They're certainly going to be diligent in bringing him back on their own terms and not letting any exuberance on his part affect the decision.
Still...he's the Rams first-round selection from this year's draft. He's the third running back taken before day three in three of the last four drafts. He pushed Zac Stacy out to New York and will replace a second-year Ram who might have hit 1,000 yards in his rookie season had he played all 16 games in Tre Mason. In the roster preview series, there's a section covering expectations.
Todd Gurley carries them. Getting him into the fold for his first NFL season isn't unimportant. The sooner the better, but doing it at the "right" time is best.
With camp starting next week, "stay tuned" is getting closer than it has in seven months.
