2015 Rams Roster Preview: Has S Cody Davis' Time Run Out?

Once thought of as a potential developmental prospect, Cody Davis has his work cut out for him.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

In 2013, Cody Davis blew away the pre-draft process and was considered by some to be "a potential mid-round selection." However, NFL GMs weren't impressed with the workouts, and Davis went undrafted eventually landing with the Rams as an UDFA.

Roster Battle

The Rams' safeties are fairly well set. You have T.J. McDonald, Mark Barron and Rodney McLeod who will be garnering the majority of the snaps. Then you have Maurice Alexander (2014 NFL Draft fourth-rounder), Lamarcus Joyner (2014 NFL Draft second-rounder) and Davis. Draft status doesn't dictate who makes the roster, but it is definitely indicative of Davis' standing in this competition.

Expectations

Alexander and Joyner both boast some flexibility in their repertoires, but Davis is strictly a safety. He is going to have to show significant improvement if he is going to make the roster. To put it bluntly, being a workout warrior was good enough for the 2013 Rams but isn't nearly good enough on this defense.

Chances of Making Roster (4/10)

Davis has seen a couple of opportunities on the active 53-man roster come and go without being able to make much of an impact. I expect Alexander and Joyner to both jump over Davis on the proverbial totem pole, which likely leaves him on the outside looking in.
