We're almost there. Dan Kadar from Mocking the Draft has his Monday mock out to help us get over the line. Top 9:
# | Team | Pick | POS | School |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Tampa Bay | Jameis Winston | QB | Florida St. |
2 | Tennessee | Marcus Mariota | QB | Oregon |
3 | Jacksonville | Dante Fowler Jr. | DE | Florida |
4 | Oakland | Leonard Williams | DL | USC |
5 | Washington | Vic Beasley | OLB | Clemson |
6 | New York Jets | Bud Dupree | DE | Kentucky |
7 | Chicago | Amari Cooper | WR | Alabama |
8 | Atlanta | Randy Gregory | DE | Nebraska |
9 | New York Giants | Brandon Scherff | OT | Iowa |
The Scherff pick seems to be the Rams' out right now. If he's on the board at 10, I would think that would be a comfortable pick to most Rams fans as well as your regular NFL observers. If not, it's a movement position. Kadar isn't mocking trades though, so he has to go with someone leaning on his old Rams-at-10 standby:
La'el Collins (OT, LSU)
Trade this pick! Trade this pick! Trade this pick! Whether it's moving up for Mariota or down to accumulate more selections, 10 is just the worst for St. Louis. Collins is good. He'd start immediately for the Rams at guard, or even right tackle. But how much better is he really than, say, T.J. Clemmings or Andrus Peat?
That's pretty much where we are three days out. The Rams have to spend some of the draft capital on offensive linemen, but they're not in a great value position to do so at 10 without Scherff available. And if wide receiver is at the top of their board, there might be a similar opportunity to drive back and get at least an extra pick to spend to get the offense into shape.
Time to get ready for Thursday...
