A week ago at 5-8, the St. Louis Rams were sitting just outside the top 10 in the 2016 NFL Draft order going into Week 14's Monday Night Football contest. Following last Thursday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the weekend's Week 15 results, the Rams have slid all the way down to the 18th pick in the first round.
One of the early prospects we've seen mocked to the Rams is Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell. Matt Miller from Bleacher Report mocked Treadwell to the Rams. So did ESPN's Todd McShay.
Yesterday, we got an updated first-round mock from SB Nation's Dan Kadar. Who does he have the Rams taking after sliding down to the 18th pick? Consider yourself unshocked:
Laquon Treadwell (WR, Ole Miss)
At this juncture, a player of Treadwell's caliber is just too good to pass up. He's a true No. 1 wide receiver who excels because of his physical nature and good hands.
Perhaps more interesting is how the Rams managed to land Treadwell despite slipping a bit down the pecking order. With 17 picks in front of them, the Rams would need some good fortune to hit this scenario based on most early mocks.
Kadar has Treadwell's teammate in Oxford, offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, going first overall to the Tennessee Titans to help protect QB Marcus Mariota. There's a pair of quarterbacks with Cal's Jared Goff going #2 overall to the Cleveland Browns and Memphis' Paxton Lynch at #6 to the San Francisco 49ers.
Overall, though, it's a glut of defensive picks that pushes Treadwell down to 18. Of the 17 picks before the Rams, 12 are on defense.
So with the draft talk starting to heat up, we've got an obvious lead horse for the Rams in the mock draft wars.
