Well, it's time to start turning toward the 2016 NFL Draft in earnest. While we can keep an eye on college ball year round just as keenly as the team does, we no longer have to take the regular season processes seriously. Yay.
In any case, here's your current draft order through the Rams ahead of tonight's Monday Night Football match between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants:
# | Team | Record | SoS |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Tennessee Titans | 3-10 | .498 |
2 |
San Diego Chargers | 3-10 | .527 |
3 |
Cleveland Browns | 3-10 | .529 |
4 |
Baltimore Ravens | 4-9 | .517 |
5 |
Detroit Lions | 4-9 | .529 |
6 |
San Francisco 49ers | 4-9 | .531 |
7 |
Dallas Cowboys | 4-9 | .541 |
8 |
Jacksonville Jaguars | 5-8 |
.469 |
9 |
New Orleans Saints | 5-8 | .512 |
10 | Chicago Bears* | 5-8 | .524 |
11 | St. Louis Rams* | 5-8 | .524 |
* - The Bears are 2-7 in the NFC while the Rams are 4-5 giving the Bears the earlier pick. Tiebreakers are strength of schedule > conference record > division record > coin flip
As Dan Kadar lays out in his draft order update over at Mocking the Draft, one of the big early hinges looks to be the Chargers. If they remain locked into Philip Rivers, that could leave a QB among the available prospects warranting an early trade from some other team in this mix.
The Rams have added six first-round picks under Head Coach Jeff Fisher and General Manager Les Snead:
Year | Pick | Player | POS | School |
---|---|---|---|---|
2012 | 14 | Michael Brockers | DT | LSU |
2013 | 8 | Tavon Austin | WR | West Virginia |
2013 | 30 | Alec Ogletree | OLB | Georgia |
2014 | 2 | Greg Robinson | OT | Auburn |
2014 | 13 | Aaron Donald | DT | Pittsburgh |
2015 | 10 | Todd Gurley | RB | Georgia |
While we haven't even opened bowl season (SATURDAY!!!) let alone gotten into scouting season, so it is plenty early. Still, the litany of names that could be available at 11 are something that should be in the back of every Rams' fans' mind as we creep through these last three NFL games.
