The Mistreatment of Case Keenum

This doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

2006-2011

Case Keenum blossoms at the University of Houston in the wake of standout QB Kevin Kolb under the tutelage of Head Coaches Art Briles and Kevin Sumlin.

Keenum goes on to break collegiate passing and offensive records over the course of his career.

Briles eventually becomes the head coach at Baylor and takes the program to higher heights than they have ever experienced during and after RGIII's collegiate career.

Sumlin accepts the job as the head coach at Texas A&M, overseeing the Johnny Football era and transitioning the program into the SEC successfully.

Kolb has a seven-year career in the NFL between three teams. He was arrested last summer for boating drunk in southern Texas.

April 28, 2012

Keenum is signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft. He spends the season on the practice squad as starting Texans QB Matt Schaub passes for more than 4,000 yards leading the team to a franchise-best 12-4 record.

October 20, 2013

Staring QB Matt Schaub is injured in the Texans' 13-38 loss to the St. Louis Rams, dropping the Texans to 2-4. Schaub's injury and poor early season play leads to Keenum getting his first of eight NFL starts on this day against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Texans lose by one point in Keenum's first start. They would go on to lose all eight of his starts, the first seven of which they lose by a combined 29 points.

Schaub heads to the Raiders' bench in 2014 and the Ravens' bench in 2015.

September 1, 2014

After being cut the day prior by the Texans who had brought in Ryan MallettKeenum signs on this day with the St. Louis Rams to backfill QB Austin Davis who is backing up starting QB Shaun Hill. The Rams' franchise QB, Sam Bradfordre-injured his ACL a week prior. 2014 UDFA Garrett Gilbert was placed on the practice squad.

September 7, 2014

The season starting in embarrassing fashion as the Rams are walloped at home by the Minnesota Vikings, 6-34. Shaun Hill is benchinjured at halftime. Austin Davis takes over. Davis starts the next eight games throwing for more than 2,000 yards with 12 TDs. The Rams go 3-5 in his eight starts.

October 28, 2014

Keenum is waived to make room for Mark Barron who arrives via trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

October 30, 2014

Keenum signs to the Rams' practice squad. The Rams continue to roll with Austin Davis.

November 16, 2014

Shaun Hill is un-benchinjured. The Rams opt to not continue to roll with Austin Davis. Having started the season 3-6, Hill leads them on a 3-4 run including a three-game losing streak to finish the season.

Hill signs with the Vikings. His only game action was to lead the Vikings to an overtime win over the Rams in Week 9.

December 15, 2014

As the Rams stumble to their season's end, the Texans sign Keenum off the Rams' practice squad. With St. Louis opting for the Hill/Davis combo, Keenum is seen as expendable to the Rams.

The day prior, starting Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick fractured his leg. He was replaced by backup QB Tom Savage. Savage, savagely, is also injured in the game. The Texans add Keenum to former Rams QB Thad Lewis as their two options to finish the season, sitting at 7-7.

December 21, 28, 2014

Keenum starts the Texans' final two games of the season. The Texas win both, one of which is against the 9-5 Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens finish 10-6 and make it through the wild card round against the Pittsburgh Steelers losing to the New England Patriots in the divisional round, 31-35.

The Texans finish 9-7 and miss out on the playoffs to two 10-win wild card teams in the AFC, including the Ravens.

March 10, 2015

The Rams trade their 2016 NFL Draft seventh-round pick to the Houston Texans to bring back Case Keenum. It is perhaps the least recognized trade in the history of the NFL as it comes in the immediate wake of the Sam Bradford-Nick Foles trade that had occured just hours earlier.

September 1, 2015

Despite starting eight games a year prior, Austin Davis finds himself in a battle for the third slot in the QB depth chart behind Keenum as the backup to Foles. With Foles and Keenum ahead of him, Davis is fighting with 2015 NFL Draft third round draft pick Sean Mannion to make the 53- man roster.

Mannion makes the team.

Davis does not. He is now a Cleveland Brown in 2015. He has yet to take a snap this season.

November 16, 2015

Having been unable to surpass Austin Davis or Shaun Hill a year prior, Case Keenum is promoted to the starting QB position while Nick Foles is demoted to the bench.

Keenum will take the Rams into Baltimore to face the Ravens.
