This is it. Last week, I said this:
Get stuff done today. This is your Saturday off for early college football.
That was last week. Last week, it was a day to get things done. Today, it's a day for football. Glorious, wonderful college football.
I'm just dropping the five games here featuring two ranked teams, but between the good games nonetheless and the upset specials, today shapes up to be a perfect showcase for college football.
#23 West Virginia at #15 Oklahoma (12:00pm ET, FOX Sports 1)
What do we look for here? Oklahoma CB Zack Sanchez? Oklahoma ILB Dominique Alexander? Oklahoma OLB Eric Striker? Oklahoma DE Charles Tapper? The whole host of West Virginia undergrad options that nobody knows yet because the program isn't built into the zeitgeist and therefore we can't fairly criticize Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher for not having the balls to hire Dana Holgorsen as his offensive coordinator because he is a damn offensive wizard and he helped make Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey video game characters until Fisher and Brian Schottenheimer turned them into slow-setting concrete?
Yup.
#13 Alabama at #8 Georgia (3:30pm ET, CBS)
Forget the early season draft hype. Make your own conclusions here. Just watch some damn good SEC football in early October and enjoy the narrative.
#3 Ole Miss at #25 Florida (7:00pm ET, ESPN)
Speaking of SEC football and not speaking of not narrative, Ole Miss and Florida. This is like two things we know very well that just don't go together like roast turkey and sex. What is this? They've played four times in the last 20 years. Why? Nobody knows. This is just weird. And in a year where Ole Miss has a trio of top 1st rounders to Florida's one? I don't know what kind of future we're raising our children in. It's rather inhumane.
#21 Mississippi St. at #14 Texas A&M (7:30pm ET, SEC Network)
CLANGA VERSUS SEC TEXAS? WHAT IS THIS NETHERWORLD?
