Per usual for the Rams, looking at the box score simply isn't enough this week. They were out-gained by 60 yards and lost the Time of Possession battle by 11 minutes, but managed to get 4 takeaways on Defense that largely took the Browns out of the game.
Two key players and a low-key coach deserve some props after yesterdays big win.
Mark Barron
Alec Who? I kid.
Seriously though, Barron put on his finest Alec Ogletree impersonation yesterday and showed that he has the ability to fill 'Tree's massive shoes. He had 16 total tackles (10 solo) and 2 for a loss. I'll admit, I was skeptical that he could slide down to the 'Will' LB slot and be effective. I'll go clean that egg off my face now.....
Mike Wauffle
Les Snead and Jeff Fisher get credit for assembling the DL, Gregg Williams gets his for scheming to the Defense's strength, but Mike Wauffle is rarely mentioned in the conversation around the NFL's best DL.
Yes, he's been given elite talent, but he also has them buying into the team mentality. Wauffle deserves some props for the Rams recent defensive dominance. He has this unit playing at an elite level both against the run and rushing the passer. Give this man a raise.
Todd Gurley
I mean, at this point what more can we say about Gurley here? He's every bit the stud that Fisher made him out to be when the Rams drafted him. Meet your new Franchise Player, Rams fans.
