The more things change, the more they stay the same.
So it is for the Rams in Dan Kadar's mock out today reacting to the Senior Bowl. With the game and the week of NFL connections now locked in, a couple players who displayed their best are on the rise. Guys like Washington DT Danny Shelton and Iowa DT Carl Davis made a big splash as did LSU OT La'el Collins.
Let's get to that top nine:
# | Team | Pick | POS | School |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Tampa Bay | Jameis Winston | QB | Florida St. |
2 | Tennessee | Leonard Williams | DL | USC |
3 | Jacksonville | Randy Gregory | DE | Nebraska |
4 | Oakland | Amari Cooper | WR | Alabama |
5 | Washington | La'el Collins | OT | LSU |
6 | New York Jets | Marcus Mariota | QB | Oregon |
7 | Chicago | Dante Fowler | DE | Florida |
8 | Atlanta | Vic Beasley | OLB | Clemson |
9 | New York Giants | Brandon Scherff | OT | Iowa |
With everything that went down last week now filtering into draft boards, Kadar has the Rams going with:
T.J. Clemmings (OT, Pittsburgh)
I still contend the Rams are in a terrible spot at No. 10. The best offensive tackles could be gone and it's hard to see St. Louis using yet another high pick on a wide receiver. Clemmings may not have had a good Senior Bowl week, but that's more a function of getting put on the left side. At right tackle for Pittsburgh this season he dominated players.
At this point, there's getting less to say. Clemmings was also the Rams' pick in Mel Kiper's recent mock, so it's not a new name. But I'm inclined to agree with Kadar that as of right now, the Rams appear a bit hamstrung at 10. It's always easy (and attractive) to shout TRADE DOWN at your computer, but reality's a bit more complicated.
Nonetheless, as it stands post-Senior Bowl, the Rams are who the Rams were. Even with the extra scouting opportunity, the Rams are stuck trying to answer the same questions...
