Week 4 College Football Open Thread

The last of the down weeks, week four offers a couple premier games to scout.

Jeff Gross

Well, we're still in the college football season soft spot. Conference play hasn't kicked in to high gear, so you've still got some of the better teams (from college and NFL perspectives) warming into the schedule. Although I guess it gives me enough juice to watch #11 Michigan St. take on Eastern Michigan to see if EMU freshman DL Lion King gets on to the field, because if you don't like a college football player named Lion King, I don't like you.

In any case, I've got a pair for this week's watchlist:

Florida at Alabama (CBS, 3:30pm)
Dante Fowler, Jr. DE Jr. Florida 1st-2nd
Leon Orr DT RS Sr. Florida 2nd-4th
D.J. Humphries (i) OT Jr. Florida 2nd-4th
Marcus Maye SS RS Soph. Florida 3rd-6th
Trenton Brown OL Sr. Florida 4th-6th
Jake McGee TE RS Sr. Florida 5th-7th
Antonio Morrison OLB Jr. Florida 5th-7th
Jeff Driskel QB RS Jr. Florida 5th-7th
Matt Jones RB Jr. Florida 5th-7th
Chaz Green OT RS Sr. Florida 6th-UD
Neiron Ball OLB RS Sr. Florida 6th-UD
Alex McCalister DE RS Soph. Florida 6th-UD
Hunter Joyer FB Sr. Florida 7th-UD
Max Garcia C RS Sr. Florida 7th-UD
Landon Collins SS Jr. Alabama 1st
Amari Cooper WR Jr. Alabama 1st
T.J. Yeldon RB Jr. Alabama 1st-3rd
Arie Kouandjio OL RS Sr. Alabama 2nd-3rd
Trey DePriest ILB Sr. Alabama 4th-5th (↓)
Brandon Ivory DT RS Sr. Alabama 4th-6th
Austin Shepherd RT RS Sr. Alabama 4th-6th
Jalston Fowler FB RS Sr. Alabama 5th-7th
Denzel Devall OLB Jr. Alabama 5th-7th (↑)
Christion Jones WR Sr. Alabama 6th-UD
Ryan Kelly C RS Jr. Alabama 6th-UD
Alphonse Taylor G RS Soph. Alabama 6th-UD (↑)
DeAndrew White WR RS Sr. Alabama 7th-UD

A bit of a big test for both SEC teams. Florida struggled to eke out a win over Kentucky last week in triple overtime, but that might have just been a case of the stronger team looking past the trap. Alabama's coming off of two soft games in Florida Atlantic and Southern Miss because Nick Saban wouldn't even play non-conference games if he didn't have to. But now they turn to SEC play for the rest of the season...except for the late November game against the Western Carolina Catamounts, because again, Saban non-conf hatred is real. Time to see if this Bama team is going to hold up in the BRUTAL SEC West.

Clemson at Florida St. (ABC, 8:00pm)
Vic Beasley OLB RS Sr. Clemson 1st
Grady Jarrett DT Sr. Clemson 2nd-4th
Travis Blanks SS Jr. Clemson 3rd-5th (↓)
Corey Crawford DE RS Sr. Clemson 4th-6th
Charone Peake WR RS Jr. Clemson 4th-6th
Stephone Anthony ILB Sr. Clemson 4th-7th (↓)
Stanton Seckinger TE RS Jr. Clemson 5th-7th
Ryan Norton C RS Jr. Clemson 6th-UD
D.J. Reader DT Jr. Clemson 6th-UD
Shaq Lawson DL RS Soph. Clemson 6th-UD (↑)
Jameis Winston (s) QB RS Soph. Florida St. 1st
Cameron Erving OT RS Sr. Florida St. 1st
P.J. Williams CB Jr. Florida St. 1st-2nd
Mario Edwards, Jr. DE Jr. Florida St. 1st-2nd
Ronald Darby CB Jr. Florida St. 2nd
Josue Matias G Sr. Florida St. 2nd
Rashad Greene WR Sr. Florida St. 2nd-4th
Tre' Jackson G Sr. Florida St. 3rd-4th
Nick O'Leary TE Sr. Florida St. 3rd-4th
Karlos Williams RB Sr. Florida St. 3rd-5th
Terrance Smith LB RS Jr. Florida St. 3rd-5th
Tyler Hunter SS Sr. Florida St. 3rd-5th (↑)
Eddie Goldman DT Jr. Florida St. 5th-7th
Roberto Aguayo K RS Soph. Florida St. 6th-UD (↑)

The headliner game of the week got the extra heat it didn't even need with Jameis Winston being suspended for the entirety of this game. That means FSU will turn to sophomore Sean Maguire to take on a solid Clemson team. The big concern for the Tigers is that they were shredded by Georgia RB Todd Gurley (which isn't all that unique) in week one. Now they face an offensive line for Florida St. that is all too comfortable to road grade. Tallahassee will be a bit anxious to see Maguire get off to a comfortable start, so it may be FSU RB Karlos Williams' chance to shine.

Fun stuff ahead. Let us know what you're seeing across the country and who Rams fans need to keep tabs on.
