College Football Open Thread

Week one rolls on with a strong schedule to showcase some of the best talents that will be available in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

College football is risen. For those of you who appreciate the word, Spencer Hall is, for my money, the best provider of it. Luckily, he happens to provide it almost exclusively on sports. His piece on the return of college football is probably the best thing you'll read all year.

My watchlist for week one has a handful of Saturday games detailed out to give you all the NFL Draft prospects in action in those games. With the quality of today's schedule, there's plenty to see.

As per usual, the first set of games isn't all that spectacular. I'll be taking in #7 UCLA at Virginia to get an early look at the Bruins. If you're elsewhere, let us know what you're seeing.

The second group of games offers you a choice between #2 Alabama vs. West Virginia or Arkansas at #6 Auburn. I'm going with the former, but I can't begrudge you for a solid SEC battle.

#16 Clemson at #12 Georgia drops at 5:30 ET, and there's just too much NFL talent to ignore. You've got perhaps the best pure pass rusher in Clemson OLB Vic Beasley and maybe the nation's best running back in Georgia's Todd Gurley. That's a recipe for fun.

That game clears out the way for the prime action until 7:30 with Fresno St. heading to #15 USC. I left that off the watchlist in favor of better Pac-12 action later on in the season, but I've got the returning national champions on there as #1 Florida St. takes on Oklahoma St. in Jerryworld. Assuming Florida St. romps, which is a solid bet, the 9pm game featuring #14 Wisconsin against #13 LSU is top billing. The Tigers have had 18 underclassmen declare in just the last two years, so you can't bet on being able to catch a bunch of those guys next year as seniors. LSU's offensive line might have three first rounders on it...and yet they might not even be the best offensive line in this game. NFL Draft porn this one.

The PacPM games aren't great, but you get looks at #3 Oregon and #25 Washington.

And we'll keep this thread up for tomorrow with Utah St. at Tennessee and SMU at #10 Baylor. Miami at Louisville comes on Monday to boot.

NFL talent on Sunday and Monday nights and they're not NFL games?

It's week one. Weird is the norm.
