Head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed the news that Sam Bradford tore his ACL and will not play this season. The St. Louis Rams head coach started off his day-after press conference with that, confirming earlier reports and fans' worst fears.
He pushed back on early speculation that the Rams have inquired about other quarterbacks via trade.
"We move forward as a football team. Shaun is our guy," he said.
"He has a great feeling for the offense right now and we're going to move forward with it," Fisher added. "He's ready for the challenge. He's ready for the opportunity."
Fisher did have some positive news about other players injured in Saturday's game against the Browns. Rodger Saffold, Kendall Langford and Michael Brockers could "potentially" play in Thursday's preseason finale. Of course, after Saturday's injury-fest, maybe they'd be better off getting the flu. Brockers suffered a high ankle sprain in the fourth preseason game in 2012, putting him on the shelf for a month to start his rookie season.
Trumaine Johnson will miss four to six weeks with a knee injury, meaning the Rams will be without one of their starting corners early in the season. That could open up an opportunity for rookie E.J. Gaines to grab the other starting corner job opposite Janoris Jenkins.
