You knew it wouldn't be a St. Louis Rams draft with Les Snead if there wasn't a trade. And the Rams swung a deal with the Buffalo Bills moved up from pick No. 44 to No. 41 to select safety LaMarcus Joyner. They got their safety.
A Florida State product that played on the national championship team last season, part of a tough defense that helped bring the trophy to Tallahassee. And what kind of safety is he? Glad you asked.
Out of the famed Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas School, Joyner has been one of the best players in the state of Florida since 2007. The former 5-star was one of Jimbo Fisher's first huge signings, and many elite players followed him to Talahassee. He excelled at both safety and corner for Florida State, and was almost always the fastest player on the field, a true heat-seeking missile despite not always having the best 40-yard dash times. FSU's coaches loved Joyner from the moment they laid eyes on him, and he is an example of how truly special players can overcome their lack of size. Joyner also has the arms of a much taller player.
His measureables:
Height: 5"8"
Postion: Defensive Back
Weight: 184lbs
Arm Length: 31 ½"
Hands: 9 ½"
40 time: 4.55
Bench Press: 14
Vertical Jump: 37 ½"
Broad Jump: 124"
3 Cone Drill: 7.26
20 yard shuttle: 4.4
GM Les Snead earned high marks for his picks on Thursday, and the Rams aren't done picking more players in the draft's second day.
The defense is shaping up nicely.
Here's the Rams' draft haul so far:
1st round: Greg Robinson, OT
1st round: Aaron Donald, DT
2nd round: Lamarcus Joyner, FS
