As expected, the Texans (finally) kicked off the 2014 NFL draft by selecting Jadeveon Clowney from South Carolina. Although Clowney is widely regarded as the best player available, the Rams are stacked at DE. Their top prospect was likely still on the board.
Les Snead was left smiling after Roger Goodell announced that the Rams selected Greg Robinson with the #2 overall pick in the draft. The Rams were able to solidify their Offensive line and likely found their starter at LG as well as their LT of the future.
Looking forward to the Rams second selection in the 1st round, it is now possible to project a bit. As I'm watching players come off the board, the top of the 1st round is going pretty much as planned. With the OL solidified, it's easy to eliminate the likes of Taylor Lewan and Zack Martin from consideration.
That being said, things are still wide open for the Rams at this point. With holes still to fill in the defensive secondary and at WR, several players could fill those holes. You have Haha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor at FS or Darqueze Dennard at CB, or you could reach for a WR. Another option would be for them to fortify a strength and snag a sliding player like Aaron Donald.
