We're now into the final day of the 2014 NFL Combine, but there's no room for relaxation here. Today, the cornerbacks and safeties hit the field, and you can be sure the Rams will be paying very close attention.
With an assumed restructuring of Cortland Finnegan's contract a near-necessity for the team, even as Fisher suggested Finnegan will be back around for the offseason program, the Rams have quality at the top with Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson. They'll still likely be in pursuit of some depth beyond that as Brandon McGee was the only corner to put in much time beyond those top three.
Safety is even more unsettled. T.J. McDonald is locked in, but between Rodney McLeod, Darian Stewart and Matt Giordano are anything but with the latter two pending free agency options. Sure, the Rams could look for a traditional free to pair with McDonald, but the Rams' scheme isn't necessarily reliant on traditional free safety responsibilities. That may have been due to the lack of a clear free safety on the roster, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was intent there.
In any case, keep an eye on safety work today. It'll be something we reference in the next two months plus as we bear down on the 2014 NFL Draft.
