Rams-Chargers: Underdog St. Louis heads to SoCal

And so, here we are.

The Rams have clawed back into the 2014 season after starting 1-4 by picking up three wins in their last five games. Now heading to San Diego, they can just barely claim a spot in the leaguewide battle on the back of a simple hypothetical. That fantasy requires the Rams to get business done against Oakland and Washington, a not insurmountable task. But first, it requires they head to San Diego and pick up another road win to give them a shot at heading toward a winning record at 7-6.

So it's going to be absolutely vital to get a result if the Rams want to lend a bit more reality to that hypothetical in San Diego on Sunday, a result that oddsmakers aren't leaning toward.

The line opened up giving the Rams six points, but coming off of a big win helped push that line one and a half points toward an even contest. So now the Rams hit the road as 4.5-point underdogs, a position they've been in several times this season. It's a reflection of how difficult the task ahead of them really is though. It may not take a performance as complete as the win over Denver, but it's still going to take a solid 60-minute showing. As good as the Rams have been early in games, getting a win over Phillip Rivers and company is going to take more than some early points.

If nothing else, the Denver game may suggest they've figured something out as a team as to how to push through halftime and keep things organized in the second half.

Sunday should tell us if that's something to look forward to or if the win over the Broncos was an anomaly.
