2014 NFL Draft: Shrine Game & NFLPA Bowl Preview & Open Thread

Two scouting games open up scouting season in full form today beginning the post-collegiate journey for more than 100 NFL prospects.

Ronald Martinez

East-West Shrine Game

TV: NFL Network
Time: 4 p.m. ET
Location: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida

Two years ago, it was kicker Greg Zuerlein putting in a memorable week of work. Last year, running back Zac Stacy emerged a viable NFL backfield prospect.

The last two Shrine Games have put up the first showings for future Rams beyond their college careers, so it's not beyond reason that today's game could make it three in a row.

Tevin put up some good names to key in on this morning, and Dan from Mocking the Draft has more reading to bring you up to speed from his game preview and watch notes. The MTD Shrine Game hub is packed with content. Rotoworld's Josh Norris is a great draft season follow, and his top 15 players in the game are worth your time as well.

Plenty of eyes will be on the East Team quarterbacks with Northern Ilinois QB Jordan Lynch and Cornell's Jeff Mathews supporting Eastern Illinois' Jimmy Garoppolo taking on a ton of hype right now. Some decent talent on the East's offensive line as well.

It matches up well then that the West is well stocked with defensive talents. Rams fans will want to look at the West's linebacking and cornerbacking corps with keen attention.

NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

TV: ESPN2
Time: 6 p.m. ET
Location: StubHub Center, Carson, California

The weaker of the two games, the NFLPA Bowl was founded just two years ago so it's still trying to build some foundational strength to support some bigger invites. Still, there's plenty of day 3 options on display. Here's a good list of some notable players involved from whodeyfans over at Cincy Jungle; he'll be at the game today, so you might want to follow him on Twitter. Same goes for @JBHirschhorn who writes for Acme Packing Company, the SBN Packers community.

So if you're having Saturday football withdrawals (know you're not alone...), you've got a hit of the sweet stuff available today.

And mark it down for next Saturday - the Senior Bowl hits NFL Network at 4pm ET with dozens of prospects that will be off the board in the first three rounds.

We're on the road to the draft. Let's enjoy it.
