Aaaaand we're off.
Here are your game day draft notes from Mocking the Draft.
#16 UCLA at #23 Nebraska (12:00 p.m., ABC)
Time to start filtering teams down in case of the hypothetical college implosion that could occur should every SEC team post a loss in this final year of the BCS. This is a perfect match for that case. From Nebraska, Rams fans will want to get a look at G Spencer Long. He's day two quality. And yes, it sets up a Jake Long-Spencer Long connection, but consider this...Nebraska also have a Chris Long and a Jake Long...we could have chaos. For UCLA, they have plenty of talent rising including OLB Anthony Barr and QB Brett Hundley. Rams fans will need to see G Xavier Su'a-Filo and WR Shaquelle Evans.
Tennessee at #2 Oregon (3:30 p.m., ABC)
Any other time, and this would be premier draft scouting...today at this time, though, this takes second billing. If you're trigger happy during commercial breaks and suspensions in play, get in on Tennessee's offensive line. Oregon has plenty to inspect on both sides of the ball as well.
#1 Alabama at #6 Texas A&M (3:30 p.m., ABC)
This is what college football is. This game has everything. Tradition and program prestige. Championship implications. Storylines. Draft prospects. This is as complete a matchup as you will get any year. If you want comprehensive notes, MTD has a game preview breakdown for NFL purposes that's well worth your time. If we're going after future Rams, the Aggies' OT pairing could factor with Jake Matthews likely commanding a high price in April though Cedric Ogbuehi is looking a fine junior at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes Matthews' route and returns for his senior year to take over on the left side to help his NFL fortunes. And get in on WR Mike Evans now. He's a RS sophomore, and if Johnny Manziel bolts, I wouldn't be surprised if Evans joins him perhaps to be called before his quarterback in next year's draft.
From Bama...draft everybody? It's getting that way. They've got seven prospects who could be selected by the end of day two: OT Cyrus Kouandjio, OLB C.J. Mosley, FS Ha'Sean "Ha-Ha" Clinton-Dix, OLB Adrian Hubbard, G Anthony Steen, DE Ed Stinson and of course QB A.J. McCarron. And if you're in the market for premium offense beyond 2014, RB T.J. Yeldon and WR Amari Cooper are elite prospects for their respective positions.
Enjoy this one, kids. We don't get many of these.
