NFL roster cuts 2013: Rams begin releasing players

The St. Louis Rams have started making roster cuts ahead of Saturday's deadline.

The St. Louis Rams have started the tough business of trimming the roster. Three players have been released so far, as far as the cuts that have been reported.

There aren't really any surprises on that list of players, but it's a tough break for all of them. Those cuts match our predicted 53-man roster from Thursday.

St. Louis has to cut 22 players by 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday to get down to the mandated roster limits. The Rams have some flexibility thanks to a pair of suspended players: Isaiah Pead for Week 1 and Jo-Lonn Dunbar for the first four weeks of the season. They don't count against the roster during their suspension.

During Thursday's game, Torry Holt revealed in the broadcast booth that he had been told that the Rams would only keep five receivers on the roster. They're down to six receivers now, with Justin Veltung still hanging onto the sixth spot. A late addition this month after Seattle let him go, Veltung has been working with special teams
