The St. Louis Rams have yet to announce any of the team's forthcoming roster cuts. However, the names of a few players being released have already found their way into the media.
Fourth-string quarterback Tim Jenkins, defensive tackle Al Lapuaho and linebacker Joseph LeBeau are the latest roster casualties to be named, in this case by Jim Thomas of the Post-Dispatch.
Those three players join a list of four others who have already been let go, including wide receiver Andrew Helmick. That brings the total players released so far, or at least the known cuts, to seven. The list includes:
- Helmick
- Jenkins
- Lapuaho
- LeBeau
- Brett Baer
- Jorgen Hus
- Robert Steeples
There aren't really any surprises on that list. Helmick made some waves early in camp, but a knee injury kept him on the sidelines for a few weeks. He missed one preseason games. The Lindenwood product is raw, but he has the kind of natural athleticism -- a sub 4.4 forty -- and instincts that should get him a shot on a practice squad somewhere.
That brings the roster total down to 83 players, from 90. Teams are required to cut down to 75 players by the end of the day on Tuesday.
