2013 NFL Draft: Rams Grab Alec Ogletree Late in First Round

Having moved up to 8 to take Tavon Austin, the Rams dropped down from 22 and ended up selecting Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree.

Having traded up to take West Virginia WR Tavon Austin, the Rams moved down from the 22nd pick taking Georgia LB Alec Ogletree at 30th overall.

It's an interesting selection.

The Rams ran a lot of nickel sets with James Laurinaitis and JoLonn Dunbar to a solid degree of success. With holes at safety, wide receiver (despite having already selected Austin...as in comma Tavon, not Pettis comma) and O-line, there were arguments to be made.

In the end though, it's Ogletree - athletic, contested, aggressive. It's an interesting selection that obviously won't be fairly evaluated for a while. But the fact is this...

The Rams spent on defense, and not at safety. That's notable. And moving forward (at least for tomorrow and into day three), it's an indication that the Rams are open to strengthening an already impressive defense.

As for where it fits into the current roster...time will tell.

Have it out overnight going into the 2nd round.
