2013 NFL draft: Atlanta Falcons trade up with St. Louis Rams

The Falcons move up to select one of the draft's top defensive backs, addressing one of their few needs.

The Atlanta Falcons traded up to the 22nd overall pick to secure Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant. In moving back, the St. Louis Rams added a third round pick (No. 92), and a sixth round selection (No. 198), while Atlanta get a 7th round pick in 2015 from the Rams.

Rumors were flying that Atlanta was trying to move up for much of draft week, and likely for a defensive back. Ultimately they chose the player many believed to be one of the best three cornerbacks in the draft. Rated 25th on Dan Kadar's big board, the Falcons address one of their few remaining needs. While their offense is already elite, stopping the pass is vital in taking the next step.

The Rams continue their penchant for moving around. Earlier in the draft they traded up for the 8th overall pick, where they took Tavon Austin -- now they take a step back adding more future picks.
