We're nearing the opening bell of the 2013 NFL Draft, but there are still a couple pro days left for prospects to showcase themselves for potential employers.
Today stands out though as the major late day slate (thought tomorrow's quartet is important as well).
Here's a rundown of the schools holding their pro days today and who the Rams could be watching (apologies to McNeese State, North Carolina Central and Southeastern Louisiana for not having much to say...):
Iowa State
It's not a huge year for Cyclones entering the draft, but the linebacker pairing of ILB A.J. Klein and OLB Jake Knott (who is finally able to participate in full today after healing up after shoulder surgery) will have NFL scouts paying attention. Klein grabbed headlines at the combine running one of the best times among inside linebackers and suffering a knee injury that he didn't...
Louisiana Tech
WR Quinton Patton is the obvious standout here, but don't discount Jordan Mills (the offensive tackle, not the apartment complex in Rochester). Mills had a very good Senior Bowl building on his senior year buzz; I first noticed him during the Louisiana Tech-Texas A&M game made infinitely better that it was postponed after being scheduled the season opener. While I already had him on my radar, Quinton Patton made himself known nationally after that game as well, hauling in 21 catches for 233 yards and four TDs. Don't be surprised if the Bulldogs have some impact on the first two days of the draft.
North Carolina
Well, now we're into Big Draft land. G Jonathan Cooper, DT Sylvester Williams, RB Giovani Bernard, ILB Kevin Reddick, OT Brennan Williams, WR Erik Highsmith, G Travis Bond...yeah, there's plenty to be had here. At this point, Cooper and Bernard are beyond the value of pro days. The rest, though, I think the scouts might key in on to see if anything jumps out at them that makes a return to the tape worth investigating.
Notre Dame
(Insert Manti Te'o joke here). Tyler Eifert's a top TE prospect, but (insert another Te'o joke here). Hehe.
Texas
As much mockery as we've seen recently that has Kenny Vaccaro heading to the Rams, this might be the Pro Day to track today. With Alex Okafor and Marqusie Goodwin in tow, there's plenty of NFL representation in Austin.
So keep your eyes out today throughout the Pro Day process...just be on the lookout for invisible Vince Young.
