Right when the Rams get a sliver of hope for the future - a draft pick stock pile that looks as if it will vault us to the top of the NFC West - the San Francisco 49ers raise their boot and stomped all over our hopes and dreams.
The 49ers agreed to a trade in principle with the Kansas City Chiefs sending Alex Smith for pick #34 and mid-round pick in 2014. Here are the Niners' picks for the 2013 draft as of right now: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7. The 49ers are also projected to get 4, 7, 7 comp picks. All of those picks on an already Super Bowl ready roster is scary and disheartening.
The amount of picks the 49ers have allows them unimaginable flexibility in free agency and the draft, and players such as Darrelle Revis and Percy Harvin become options for the 49ers through trade.
Taking on the NFC West, which was already a tall order for the talent deficient Rams, just became taller. Pressure is mounting for the Rams to hit on their first round picks this off-season.
Twitter Reaction
Don't rule out the #49ers trying to get Percy Harvin from Minnesota if he's available.

A team that could roll dice RT @clarkjudgecbs: With Smith trade, 49ers have ammunition to take run at Darrelle Revis: cbssports.com/nfl/blog/clark…

#49ers could in fact trade for Revis. Got the picks. But they need to lock up Kaep & Crabtree (with high-priced vets). How to fit it all?

All right, I need to get work done. Will be muttering "dammit Andy" under my breath all day like @fieldgulls.

It's really tough to see the Niners, Seahawks and Rams all making the playoffs in 2013. Really tough.
