How the Rams top pick could change after this Sunday

The Rams could have the 1st pick of the draft, or their pick could fall.

James Lang-US PRESSWIRE

The St. Louis Rams have been sitting pretty with the 2nd pick in the 2014 NFL draft for the past few weeks. However this year, even though the NFL is heading towards week 17, the draft positions aren't set in stone. Which is good and bad for the Rams, because they could end up with the 1st overall pick too. But in some other scenarios, they could wind up with a lower than #2 overall pick.

Houston Texans

Texans vs. Tennessee Titans.

If the Texans win, and the Redskins lose: congratulations Rams, you now own the first pick in the draft. However, if the Texans lose, they will be granted the first pick of the draft.

The Texans will probably end up losing, but there's always hope, right? This is the NFL and anything could happen. So don't worry Texans, and whoever you have at quarterback: the Rams organization and fans are rooting for you to get your 3rd win.

Washington Redskins

Redskins vs. New York Giants

This game could be a nightmare for the Rams. The Redskins have a realistic chance of winning this game. The Giants don't have anything to play for, and they've been just plain bad this season. Eli Manning has been playing Santa Claus and throwing gifts to every defensive player in the land. Also, its important to note that the Redskins have lost their last two games by two points.

The other 4 win teams

If the Redskins win this week, the Rams join a host of four win teams. If the three teams listed below lose and the Redskins win, I believe the Rams will fall down to the 5th pick because of the strength of schedule(SoS) of the Redskins is currently (.521).  The Browns' and Raiders' SoS is higher than the Rams, and I'm sure the Jaguars' SoS will be lower than the Redskins.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars (.504)

4. Cleveland Browns (.517)

5. Oakland Raiders (.517)

For the rest of the list, go here. It gets confusing because the SoS will change after this week, so let's keep it simple for now: as long as the Redskins, lose the Rams will at worse have the 2nd choice in the draft. If the Redskins win, it gets dicey.

Either way, we have more than one game to keep an eye on this week.
