You can cross two potential defensive coordinators off the list for the St. Louis Rams. It's being reported that Lovie Smith will sit out 2013 rather than take a coordinator position, and Cal defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast will replace Monte Kiffin as the defensive coordinator at USC.

USCFootball.com is reporting that ex Cal DC Clancy Pendergast is about to be #USC new defensive coordinator

Pendergast was one of the first names mentioned in connection with the Rams job, following the dismissal of Blake Williams earlier this month. Lovie never really seemed to be a viable option, not with the Tampa 2 and head coaching bona fides.
All of those names are probably irrelevant anyway. The wires have gone silent since last Friday, but it sure feels like Rob Ryan is the pick. All indications are that the Rams are talking to his representation, but no deal is done.
Stay tuned.
