Rams coaching rumors: Hue Jackson a potential replacement at OC?

If Brian Schottenheimer does get a head coaching job, who could the Rams hire to keep some offensive continuity?

For the fourth season in a row, the St. Louis Rams could be losing the offensive coordinator. The Jacksonville Jaguars requested permission to interview Brian Schottenheimer on Thursday. Jim Thomas at the Post-Dispatch shared some insight on the possibility of Schottey leaving earlier on Friday.

Quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti is one possible replacement, but Thomas notes that the Rams would likely to go outside the system for a new offensive coordinator. One name that was in the mix last year was former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson.

Fisher has said that the Rams would not change offensive systems if Shottenheimer leaves. That might give Jackson a leg up in the process. He runs a very similar style offense with roots in the Air Coryell.

Jackson and Brian Schottenheimer worked together in Washington in 2001, for head coach Marty Schottenheimer. Jackson was the running backs coach and Brian Schottenheimer was the quarterbacks coach.

Another name to keep an eye on is Cam Cameron, the former Ravens OC who was fired after Week 14 this season. Schottenheimer used to work for him in San Diego, under the elder Schottenheimer as head coach.
