2013 NFL Draft: Bowl Game Open Thread

Well, it's New Years Day. Where the NFL rules Thanksgiving and the NBA has Christmas, today belongs to college ball. So let's get our scout on.

Kevin Liles-US PRESSWIRE

I'll be updating this thread and the tracker throughout the day. Should have the tracker updated for today's games in a few, hopefully in time for the Capital One Bowl. Here are your draft notes from Mocking the Draft.

Mississippi St. vs. Northwestern (ESPN2, 12:00pm)

Interesting matchup here with Northwestern's ground game against Mississippi St.'s defense. A stereotypical Big Ten-SEC matchup. Rams fans should get a look at MSU LG Gabe Jackson.

Purdue vs. Oklahoma St. (ESPNU, 12:00pm)

(insert annual gripe about the bowl game in the Cotton Bowl not being called the Cotton Bowl. Hate you for life, Jerry Jones. Hate you for life.)

Not a ton here, scouting-wise. Purdue DT Kawann Short and OSU RB Joseph Randle headline the offerings here. But down roster, who knows what this opens up for subsequent drafts. Not trying to insult fans of either team here, but there's a reason this one's on ESPNU...

Georgia vs. Nebraska (ABC, 1:00pm)

Here we go. Georgia's got plenty of early talent by themselves: OLB Jarvis Jones, DT John Jenkins, QB Aaron Murray, FS Bacarri Rambo, ILB Alex Ogletree, SS Shawn Williams. That's half a dozen day one and two prospects from Georgia alone. Nebraska's not as top heavy, but as well as they pound the ball, they can test any defense. And with so many defensive prospects from Georgia, it's a unique scouting opportunity.

South Carolina vs. Michigan (ESPN, 1:00pm)

Well how the hell are we supposed to pick between these two? Here, you've got one of the best offensive tackles in the draft (Michigan LT Taylor Lewan) and two quality defenders from the Cocks in FS D.J. Swearinger and OLB DeVonte Holloman. And that's just the tops. Plenty to be seen here, including the 2014 NFL Draft #1 overall pick, DE Jadeveon Clowney - no, I don't see any way he's not the #1 overall pick in a year and a third.

Keep it here for updates throughout the day. Happy New Year, kids.
