Rodger Saffold Injury: Rams OT Has MCL Sprain

Presswire

Rodger Saffold continues to avoid serious injury. He was taken off the field with a knee injury on Sunday against the Redskins, and head coach Jeff Fisher revealed at his Monday press conference that Saffold had only suffered a third-degree MCL sprain.

The injury will probably keep Saffold out for a few weeks; Fisher did not offer a time table for his return. He will avoid going on injured reserve, which is a break for the Rams, though does make the roster math a little more complicated with other starters, including Michael Brockers, out with an injury.

Fisher did call the injury "significant." He could be out approximately a month.

The Rams have already used their designated to return injured reserve spot for center Scott Wells. That means Saffold will stay on the 53-man roster, but still leave the Rams short an offensive tackle. Ty Nsheke is the third tackle right now.

Austin Pettis returned Monday as well, forcing the need to clear a roster spot.

Brockers and Matt Conrath could determine what happens going forward. The sooner those two are ready, the sooner the Rams can open a roster spot at defensive tackle.
