Rams Cut Vernon Gholston, 7 Others

Vernon Gholston's time with the St. Louis Rams has come to end just as quickly as it started. The team released him on Friday amid a series of roster cuts. Gholston may still get another chance somewhere, but it seems unlikely, especially if teams bother to watch his game tape from his brief stint in St. Louis.

The other cuts at Rams Park so far include center Tim Barnes, fullback Ben Guidugli, center T-Bob Hebert, tight end DeAngelo Peterson, offensive tackle Joe Long, running back Chase Reynolds, and cornerback Kendric Burney. All of those players except Gholston are eligible for an NFL practice squad.

Hebert and Barnes are talented players, but with a healthy Scott Wells and a solid backup in Robert Turner, the Rams just don't have the roster space.

Peterson's departure clears up the tight end picture just a little bit. Mike McNeil was working with the first team on Friday, and is probably a decent bet to make the final cut.
