The most festive training camp in a decade for the St. Louis Rams cruised ahead on Monday. Gray skies and the occasional trickle falling on a thirsty Earth did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of team reborn and fans enlivened. The tent revival vibe was even enough to inspire Jason Smith to jump offsides ... with excitement, no doubt. A few more tidbits of party cake to enjoy.
- Rokevious Watkins went through individual drills, but remedial physical training happened inside while his teammates practiced. He could be back on Tuesday.
- Daryl Richardson, Scott Wells and Danario Alexander did not participate again.
- Jason Smith incurred a false start in the red zone and was immediately chewed a new one by Paul Boudreau.
Brian Quick had people talking after and during practice. If you followed our Twitter list from camp today, you saw the second-round pick's name turn up plenty of times. Quick used his size and feet to get the ball. Check out what Jiim Thomas had to say about the rookie:
WR Brian Quick was more sure-handed and more effective Monday in practice. So far the second-round pick from Appalachian State looks like he's determined to get himself ready to play and contribute as soon as possible.
The Rams are counting on Quick to contribute this season. He did not see many reps with the starters on Monday, but he was never going to be handed the job.
From some other recaps and notes Monday's practice
Cory from Cory Unfiltered made note of a new face on the defensive line:
2012 UDFA DT Matthew Conrath is taking a lot of reps with the first team defense. It seems like they take Langford out and put Conrath in during passing situations.
Patty over at the Pigskin Arch peeled back a layer on the kickers:
Zuerlein is competing against second year kicker, Garrett Lindholm, for the starting job. After veteran kicker Josh Brown (now with the Jets) was let go in the off season. It should be a good battle of the legs.
TSTers Brent and Betsy sent along some pictures from Sunday's practice, one you see above. Be sure to check them out on our Facebook page.
