The St. Louis Rams are on the field at the moment, chipping away at their first training camp practice of the year. Thanks to fans on the scene and a few other sources, we have a fairly good view of the action on the field. First, a few notable tidbits to cover and then some early highlights from the action at the ContinuityX Training Center.

Rams center Scott Wells was not on the field for practice. His exact status is unclear, but we do know that he is not with the team working on Sunday. Wells had a knee scope this spring. It's a minor procedure, but he missed most of OTAs and minicamp. The team was confident that he would be in action early in camp if he did not start with the rest of the team. If he is on the camp PUP list, he can activated at any time.

Danario Alexander was on the sidelines, watching the receivers run through drills. You can't hear it, but I'm groaning like Marge Simpson right now. DX is hardly a lock for the final roster. This is just the first day of camp, so he has plenty of time to get back on the field. Still, he needs to see every snap he can can get.

Quinn Ojinnaka is working as starting left guard at practice.

Jo-Lonn Dunbar and Mario Haggan were the first-team outside linebackers.

Janoris Jenkins started at cornerback.

A few notes from the early goings:

Get to know the short passes again. Lance Kendricks was catching short passes in 11-on-11 drills, ditto Greg Salas working on the outside.

And of course, Danny Amendola ...

Steven Jackson remains Steven Jackson, albeit one with 5.1 percent body fat and a slimmed down 235-pound frame.

Tweets from the crowd painted the picture of an omnipresent Jeff Fisher, stalking the field and showing up exactly where the action was.

And about that new kicker, Greg Zuerlin, he owns a catapult for a leg.

Still more highlights ...
