The St. Louis Rams made a minor, but notable move on Saturday, a day before the full team takes to the practice field for training camp. The team signed fullback Ovie Mughelli of the Atlanta Falcons, according to Jim Thomas at the Post-Dispatch.
Mughelli, 32, made the Pro Bowl in 2010. The veteran full back was released by the Falcons in May. He was due a $3 million salary this season, and the Falcons found his replacement, Brady Ewing, in the fifth round of the draft. Mughelli landed on injured reserve following Week 7 last year with a knee injury.
St. Louis gave him a one-year deal. Measuring 6-foot-1, 250 pounds, he will compete with Todd Anderson and Brit Miller for the team's fullback job. If you're handicapping the race, Mughelli might seem to have an edge given his and Snead's connection from Atlanta. However, the difference could come down to special teams ability, something that earned Miller a roster spot last year.
