The St. Louis Rams did not get a Monday Night Football game this season. That might be for the better given Wednesday's news that ESPN will use Chris Berman to call the second half of a double-header to kick of the season's Monday night telecast this year.
Berman and Trent Dilfer will pair up for a game between the Chargers and the Raiders, as if Raiders fans haven't already suffered enough. Expect Berman to use the same cadence of bad jokes and sound effects standing in for actual talking to make his way through the game.
The addition of Dilfer might be worse. The sports network is slowly grooming Dilfer to be their go-to guy in the booth, so the story goes. Dilfer places a great deal of value on his opinions, more than anyone should really, which then turn them into stubborn pronouncements. Remember, this is the guy that believed Jimmy Clausen and Colt McCoy were better quarterback prospects than Sam Bradford.
That said, who are your favorite broadcasters? I'm partial to the soothing sounds of CBS' old men, who make it feel like a game two decades ago.
