NFL Free Agents: St. Louis Rams Host WR Jerome Simpson

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has always had a knack for taking chances on players with, um, non-football issues in the past. Cincinnati Bengals free agent wide receiver Jerome Simpson will workout for the Rams on Wednesday, according to Jim Thomas of the Post-Dispatch.

Their time together may give the Rams an idea about whether or not they want to take a chance on Simpson, who was arrested for having several pounds of marijuana shipped to his house in the Cincinnati area from California. That's a felony. And as part of his plea bargain, he could be looking at some jail time. He may also be facing a four-game suspension from the NFL.

Fisher and his staff can spend some time with Simpson and gauge his potential for relapse ... and make sure he didn't spend the time since the end of the season putting on pounds eating Fritos and Fun Dip.

Simpson had his moments as a starter, according to Jay Gruden, but he never put it all together as a starter for the Bengals in his fourth season. He is just 26-years old and pretty quick. Cincinnati picked him in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He could get another prove-it deal since he has had zero interest from other NFL teams.
