The St. Louis Rams selected Missouri Western kicker Greg Zuerlein with their 6th-round pick on Saturday. Zuerlein follows a trend of the Rams selecting players they had pre-draft visits or workouts with this spring.
Kickers often go undrafted, so this pick came as a bit of a surprise. At least it was not a 3rd round punter.
He broke a record last season by kicking 21 straight field goals without a miss. Mel Kiper had him listed as the top kicker on his draft board. The Bengals and the Browns also had workouts with the Missouri Western product.
It could mean the writing is on the wall for Josh Brown, who is in the final year of his contract. He is due $2.7 million in salary this season. Brown made just 75 percent of his field goal attempts last season, the lowest mark of his career since 2005. He was o-for-two on attempts of 50+ yards.
