I made my picks for the SB Nation NFL bloggers' mock draft. If only the real draft would work out this way ... The second of the St. Louis Rams second-round picks is posted over at Mocking the Draft, and I think this pick will generate some discussion.
After picking Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy with pick #33 in this same mock, I spent pick #39 on ...
Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
Jeffery is pure boom or bust, but the upside is just too high to overlook here. My thoughts from the pick:
The Rams are quickly forming the all-motivation team in the second round of this draft. In reality, this has the potential to be a pick with very good value, and Jeff Fisher has been willing to take chances in the past on players with questions about character and motivation issues. Jeffery is unlike any receiver the Rams currently have on the roster. Tall and sure-handed he gives Sam Bradford a large target, someone the excels at stretching for a ball and plucking it out of the air with one hand.
There is a very real possibility Jeffery could be had with one of these two picks. Depending on who else is available - Mohamed Sanu was still on the board - Jeffery could be the best pick for the Rams.
Thoughts?
