The St. Louis Rams made another move in free agency on Monday, two moves actually. The team signed wide receiver Steve Smith and tight end Matthew Mulligan to shore up their depth chart as they prepare for the regular season.
We mentioned the news earlier. Now, I want to gauge the approval level on today's moves, using the comments and the poll below. A few pros and cons after the jump.
Steve Smith is coming off some major injuries that cut his production following a 1,000-season in 2009. Some feel like he rushed back into action last season before he was ready. He is an injury risk. Smith is also a slot receiver, though he can work the outside, the one place where the Rams are already loaded at the position.
Of course, they only signed Smith to a one-year contract, the value of which is unknown. You can imagine it's more of a prove it deal, loaded on incentives. There is no guarantee that he will make the final roster in September.
Mulligan is a specialist, pure and simple, a blocker to replace Billy Bajema. He had some penalty trouble in New York, but grades out as a better blocker than Bajema was in his time here.
Discuss.
