You may have forgotten about the 2012 NFL Draft in the midst of the free agent hub-bub. The St. Louis Rams, nor any other team save for maybe the Browns, did not forget about the draft. According to a report from Scout.com, the Rams have a pre-draft visit scheduled with an offensive tackle.
Which offensive tackle? Probably not who you expected.
Memphis OT Ronald Leary will be paying a visit to Rams Park sometime in the month between now and the 2012 NFL Draft. Leary worked out in front of plenty of NFL teams at the Memphis pro day this week, with defensive tackle Dontari Poe commanding most of the spotlight.
Leary played left tackle in college. That may change in the NFL, where teams have told him they envision his future at guard or perhaps right tackle. Leary is 6' 3" 314 lbs, and is a bit slow-footed, according to scouting reports, for life on the outside.
He told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that his pro day focus was showing off his footwork.
"I wanted to show them I could move,'' Leary said. ''I know that was a big question coming into the offseason, how well I could move side to side. I wanted to show them that. I've been working since the combine and I feel my footwork was better today than it was at the combine."
Leary is a late-round prospect. His best asset is apparently his grit and determination.
With the Titans, Fisher's staff had a knack for developing late-round picks. That same Midas Touch will be essential to turning around the depth-starved Rams.
